Was replacing the oil lines that attach to the block, and managed to strip the internal threads on the oil filter adapter. Dealer only part, ten days out for shipment. Two different auto parts stores said trying to drill out threads will probably be futile, though the guy at NAPA said try a machine shop. It's 3 PM on a Friday, that's not happening. I need this truck on the road ASAP. Anyone have any ideas?

 

A trip to the junk yard may get you back on the road fairly quick. Otherwise, drill out the hole and toss a helicoil in there of the correct side needed. Best bet is to order a new one. Borrow or rent another vehicle in the meantime?

Yep, this is what I ended up doing. Worked great. Only reason why I didn't do it in the first place was because I was advised at two different auto parts stores not to try it.

 

Now that you got it running, you might put a replacement on your list for the next time you are at a wrecking yard.

I think by the time these hoses start leaking the Blazer will itself be in the wrecking yard. It's seen better days.

 

Oh, I wouldn't necessarily assume they are done for once their oil hoses start to leak. These hoses are notorious for starting to leak on their own. I've warned new Blazer owners that replacing them can be considered a right of passage. LOL

I replaced mine maybe 10 years ago and my Blazer is doing pretty well. Of course I live where the roads are not salted much.

This will be the third time I've replaced this set of hoses on this truck. The Blazer is just showing its age in a lot of other ways. I've grown tired of fixing things on it. I'm only doing the repairs that are absolutely necessary to keep it going a while longer.

Aside from the body rust that is getting worse and worse, it needs inner tie rods, idler arm, door hinge bushings, front axle seal, rear/front main seals, A/C compressor and related components, park/neutral switch, rear hatch won't pop open, body mounts, engine mounts, probably more but that's just off the top of my head.

I've changed the oil religiously so the engine is still running good with ~210000 miles.
