Default Temp sending unit question

Other than an inaccurate gauge reading, would a failing temperature sending unit exhibit any other symptom? Would it cause engine performance issues such as stalling or hesitation? I'm having multiple performance problems and trying to avoid throwing unnecessary parts at it. I've spent a ton of time and money on this thing already and I'm just about to give up on it. Thanks for your responses.

Yes a faulty ECT sensor will make the truck think it is -40° outside and add way too much fuel resulting in crappy running. You gauge gets the reading from the PCM if your Blazer is an 02. Corrosion on the connector will also cause the same issues. I'm talking about the one on the front of the engine. (only one on an 02).

Excellent. This forum is the only reason I can't quit this Blazer.
Y'all rule!

I'd go with the first one.

I have ordered the AC Delco OEM replacement unit, as well as a new thermostat and radiator cap. Should arrive tomorrow.
Will install Saturday.
Will post results.
If memory serves, the unit is located on the intake manifold near the thermostat housing, as the diagram indicates. Correct?
