Default These Gosh Darn Fuel Pumps

OK I have dropped the tank twice to replace the pump. Each time I used a different brand....yes yes I know this time I will bite the bullet and get the AC Delco.

Has anyone ever cut a hole in the floor to access the pump rather then drop the freaking tank? How did it work? Am I just being silly? Disconnecting those wires with my ham hock hands while on your back is just a huge PITA. Why did they stop putting acces hatches in the trucks/floors like in the old days?

probly liability concerns, that and they wanted you to go back to the dealer & not do it yourself. oddly enough i came across a pontiac gtp thet did have a factory access panel in the trunk to change the fuel pump without dropping the tank. that chassis must have really been prone to pump failure for g.m. to have a access portal ready! you probly could make a access door, but you'd want to do it with the tank out, not sure how you'd do it with the tank in place without messing something up. i think its been done before by someone. thats probly one good thing about a S10 truck over the S-blazer, on the truck you can easily pull the box off, not so easy/simple to lift the body from the chassis on a suv.

I googled that about a year ago and many folks have, they just don't look good. Finding the correct location, right above the pump, the tank has to be dropped anyway.
The person on youtube that did it with a wiz wheel and the tank still on is just lucky to be alive.

Default It's The Gas

Ethanol gas causes fuel pumps to go out... Bite the bullet and buy premium non ethanol and you won't have a problem with your pump and you will go further per gallon.

^^strange, ive been pumping ethanol gas for years and never had a pump fail. The s10 i purchased already had a bad pump. other then that, never had a issue with ethanol.

Can't get non-ethanol in my neck of the woods. Screws up so many boat motors its un-real. Keeps the guys that run tow boats plenty busy.

some.. but not the ones we're concerned about. In ours, the working fuel pressure is the killer.

WHERE? And it doesnt
NEED premium
and you won't have a problem with your pump
Really? Then how come OE Fuel pumps in late eighties and nineties Fords typically last 200K?...No, we still would
and you will go further per gallon.
For vehicles the age of ours.. true!
I'll leave that vote to the floor delegates
