Default Trans Hesitation going into D or R

1995 Jimmy 4.3 Vin W 230,000 miles. Have had this issue since getting the vehicle at around 140,000 miles. When I start out and put into OD, I have to wait until tranny engages B4 taking off otherwise, if I just put it into gear and try to take off, it'll slam into gear. Same with reverse. Everything else is fine, and shift points are correct. Theres just that 3 second delay B4 it engages. I've read thru the DYI's and couldn't find exactly the problem with my tranny. I've driven other Blazers and it doesn't have this long of a delay B4 engaging. Is this something that can be fixed or replaced???

P.S. Truck seems to run great and I always fix a problem right away.

IMO you're pushing the limits of these transmissions without needing a bit of a refresh. There are a few parts I think that start wearing out about this point in time. There are a couple troubleshooting posts. TPS really only affects shift points and line pressure. I suppose if it were out of calibration at 0% throttle it could potentially affect minimum line pressure.

The reason for the delay is with 140K miles on the transmission, the internal seals are starting to wear and transmission fluid is bypassing those seals causing the delay. When the vehicle generates enough heat to make the seals expand, the problem goes away and will go into gear. It will only get worse over time and need a rebuild. At 230K I would consider a trans refresh if the rest of the vehicle is in good shape. The refresh will cost you less now. If you start damaging hard parts within the transmission, it can get pretty expensive. In the Detroit area you can get a trans rebuilt on the bench for about $800 provided you don't need hard parts.

Thanks for all the replies! The vehcile could be cold started, put it into gear right away...same 3 second delay as if it were fully heated up. There is always this delay in when I switch from park to Drive, not quite as long from Park to reverse (2 sec.) but it doesn't matter if it's hot or cold. If I back up, step on the brakes, put it into OD or D thre is still this 3 second B4 it engages. Like I said, other than that, the trans. shift points are perfect.

About 50,000 miles ago I changed out the Trans. filter and fluid thinking that was the problem to no avail.

I AM having a current problem with my defrosters and controls inside. It mostly stays on defrost, and when I replaced the vac. control switch on the dashboard I noticed some oily substance, and I'm having a problem with the 4wd engaing and staying engaged, so I think this is a vacuum problem, comeing from the vacuum switch on the trans. case. I disco'd the vacuum (ball?) connected to the underside of the hood and the stupid t*t broke so I put a clear rubber line and small bolt and this morning after my first drive I noticed oily fluid in the line. Any takers??
