98 4x4

so i was looking to put in a trans temp gauge but my only issue is, where the hell am i going to mount this thing! hah i mean i could make a bracket and throw it up on top of my dash but id like it to be in the dash itself. has anyone put one in and where did you mount it up at? or if you have any ideas thatd would be great!

HMMM! Now this is an interesting question! I am assuming an automatic trans,right?Why do you feel the need for such:heavy towing,mud slogging etc, or just to monitor the trans? How do you plan to install the sender in the trans itself? In the pan? Most likely spot,right? I have only operated class 8 road tractors with such a gauge (all Road-Rangers) where trans temp monitoring was critical under ultra high load situations,upgrade or down and have never seen one in a car automatic,or even in any of the new automatic road tractors! The 4L60e is designed to operate at temps from -50* to about 260-280* with no issues! Again, why the need for a trans temp gauge in a 4100 lb vehicle? Let us know! Thank You!

 

You could get an a-pillar gauge pod. Those seem to be fairly popular.

 

step66 - more so just to monitor the trans but i do a lot off of roading and towing every now and then. didnt want to be running out in the dirt and mud hard n long and burn up the trans. the way i was going to install it is theres a check hole? (not sure what youd call it) that sits above the linkage on the side of the trans and i was going to screw it in there. no huge reason just boredom more than anything lol plus ive always like to have a gauge on everything i can to make sure its all up to par.

Thogert - yea i saw those but id rather have a single gauge in the dash rather than 3 of them off to the side( assuming you me the tri-guage set up )

 

The port is a pressure check port. Works fine for the temp gauge, where mine is.

I run my gauge in a triple gauge a pillar pod but I also run 2 other gauges. They do make a dual pillar pod for s-series. I've seen single pods but they are universial.

possibly on top of where the cassette player is? seeing as i dont use it... hmm there really isn't a lot of room hahah

can i get pics of the temp gauge install and location was there any paticular guage u used or fittings?

 

There's a temp sensor already in the trans, why not use it, the PCM does?

 

What years have the temp sensor? also what does the PCM use the temp for? just curious.. Oh and how would you wire that temp sensor to a gauge?
