Default Transfer case leaks

My transfer case seems to be leaking from the joint between the two half. Its just rtv gasket there doesn't last forever. Is it possible to split the t case reseal it without removing it completely. I'm just tired of chasing leaks and I don't have a lot of time or help to remove.

You know....I do not remember ever reading about a transfer case leaking other than the input seal or the case got cracked from an impact. In the case of the input seal failure, transmission fluid would fill the T-case and I think come out via a vent. Is the stuff leaking red or blue?

Lanny its clear, yeah the skid plate shows no signs of impact why I think the rtv is just old.

Clear?....the Chevy/GM transfer case fluid is blue, referred to as "Smurf Juice" Of course ATF is red.....but clear??....now that is really odd! Only fluid I know of that is clear is water. Very puzzled.

If it was previously filled with gear oil not atf or gm fluid it would be yellowish clear guys. Second owner to this 18 yr old vehicle i don't know all the stuff thats been done.

Yep...fully understand the "who knows what the previous owner" has done. Good to hear that it is NOT ATF as that would make a short life of the transfer case. Now if standard gear lube was used......???

Looks like you get to be the first to see if you can separate the case and fix.
