Default My 98 blazer lost her reverse. Please help!!!

Bought a 98 blazer a few days ago. It was working pretty good until I was coming around a corner and spin out in the snow, when I went to throw it into reverse, nothing... It wa swirling perfectly fine before. All it does is rev up, no sounds or nothing, just like its in neutral. Other gears seem to be working fine as I can still drive it around. The crappy thing is I have to drive this truck 6 hours tomorrow back up north to my oilfield job. Anyone have any ideas? Not sure if it matters but the gas and temp gauges both don't work, gas gauge sits at empty and temp sits at lowest temp but goes lower when you shut truck off. Also tried engaging 4wd but there's nothing, no lights on the 4wd buttons or sounds when trying to engage ect. Hope somebody can help. Thanks in advance! You guys are the best!!!!

I bet you don't have 2nd gear either.

Sounds like u stripped the sun shell gear in the tranny. You changed from reverse to drive too quickly, before the drive train was actually full stopped. Easy to do when rocking in snow/mud. It's a known weak point. Might have metal bits in the fluid which could damage the tranny internals.

Second works perfect aswell as every other gear, just reverse. Also when i put it from forward to reverse the vehicle was stopped, driveshaft was definitely stopped

Either way, I plan on doing the repair myself do you figure it would be best to remove it myself then have a shop rebuild it or just buy another tranny?

The fact that you bought it a few days befor might have alittle to do with it ..None of the 4x4 lights work or half the gauges and you still bought it? ..anyways

You might have to pull the dash for the 4x4 light plug in see if its hooked up along with rear wiper etc in that area. if its hooked up check fuse if the light come on but don't engage the 4 High and 4 Low you might have to check first on the passager side kick panel front side of the door remove it and you will see a box with a plug even if its plugged in remove and set it back in. its ether loose or faulty Still nothing Remove the Battery tray and check your actuatorwhile someone in the truck pushes the buttons.. yes you will have to hook up the batt on the side for the truck to run

As for the tranny issue ..Check fluid with hot Add or change it Not much else you can do without dropping it and re & re

I'm thinking someone before you did a wire job and your gauges paid the price

The truck was owned it's I tire life by a west African lady and her husband who are elderly, the motor was replaced and has only 73,000km. I've read up on gas gauge problem and most say it's the module in fuel pump, as for the temp gauge it is moving slightly from below cold to lowest temp so wouldn't that be an issue in the gauge itself? I'm gonna try hooking a power source up to the heat sensor on the side of the motor and see if the gauge goes up. As for the tranny I didn't quite understand what you explained previously as it was a bit unclear, this truck is in immaculate condition and have receipts for the new engine and I only paid $300 cad. I myself think it wa da great deal. I've done work to hear Blazers 4wd before so do have a good idea how to work around with it. You mentioned to check it the actuator under the battery? When I do if it's not working where does this lead me? Thank you for all you're help by the way it is very useful as I am young and love to learn more

No reverse is an internal transmission problem. What speeds do the shifts happen at?
should be with light throttle 1-2 @ 12-15, 2-3 @ 22-26, 3-4 @ 35-40 & TCC 45. TCC will unlock with a tap of the brake pedal (just enough to turn on brake lights). If it broke the shell you should be missing 2nd. If the either the reverse input pack or the Manual low/reverse is bad, you would have all gears as you describe just no rewind. Both require a transmission removal for it to be repaired/replaced. Good luck, Keep us posted.

It's hard shifting into 3rd, as it sounds like it should shift at 2500 to 3000 rpms I have to let my foot of the throttle for it to shift. All other gears work perfectly

Trans are relatively cheap for our blazers. I was just looking at them last night.

The trans code should be on the inside of your glovebox.
