Smile Transmission Problem

Last night night I started our Blazer to drive to town. When I started it the check engine light came on & when I put it into reverse it banged hard, I backed up & it banged hard into forward gear. As I pulled out I realized that I only had 3rd gear. I drove it into town a few miles & all I had was 3rd & reverse. I could manually shift it second gear. Well I stopped at a friends for about an hour. Went I got ready to come home I started the truck & the check engine lights was on, I put it in to gear & it shirted fine going home.
So this morning I cleared the code, I didn't have a reader to see what it was. I drove it 100 miles today with no problem. I'm about due to have it serviced, But I keep it serviced regularly.
Anyone have any thoughts on what is going on. This is the first & only time it has ever acted up. I figured either a stuck solenoid or a computer glitch.
Thanks.

Mine done something similar about a year ago. I never had the problem since but for some reason while cold it shifts kinda hard out of 1st. No bang or anything but it will move you back in your seat. After warming up I have no issues at all.

I was thinking that it was a computer error at the time. I had my tranny dropped and looked at and there was no signs of any issue. Hopefuly thats the case for you as well

It turned out to be an electrical module on the trans that is leaking water inside. I'm told they make an upgrade. Monday it is going in to the shop to be replaced. I guess this is a common problem until an upgrade module is installed.
I hope this helps others. I was told it will only do it on start up if the computer detects any moisture it will cause the problem. I was told that if you shut it off & restart many times it will work OK. But the check engine soon light will remain on until cleared. The only time this will cause a problem is on start up. once it is running it won't start messing up.
