Default Transmission stuck in Park Notes

2nd Generation vehicles with floor shift automatic

Have discovered that if you have a problem of not being able to shift out of Park just remove the boot from around the shifter ( it's pretty easy to remove by hand with some effort) reach down on the passenger side of the shifter and press a white plastic lever to the left. This actuates the Brake-transmission interlock to the right allowing you to shift into gear.

Console can be removed from around the shifter later to repair your problem or simply tie the plactic lever into position forever.

Just thought I would try to save someone some time and trouble!

That only works if the problem is with the selector....if it's a tranny problem or linkage failure..that little plastic piece won't help much..
