1995 GMC Jimmy 2wd.

I removed the transmission and found a nail in behind the pump. There are heavy scratches to the input drum inside and out. After removing the last spring in the case I noticed the case appears to have heat damage and looks baked at the tail. Cracks and such. Can I use any year 2wd 4l60e case to rebuild for my 95 or are they year specific? I have read that it is not good to use different yrs. in a swap situation.
