pushing the button on the gauge releases the pressure the gauge has in it. hook the gauge up and turn the key to the on position and see what the reading is.

Be sure to turn the key just to the 'on' position, not 'start', and see what the reading is. Turn off and see if there is a drop in pressure.

ya it was my fuel pump. the test read 0 no matter what i did to it. i check the fuses and everything. i couldnt even hear the pump turn on or anything. i banged on it with a baseball bat and it turned over and ran great but now its doing it again it wont start so i pushed it back into my garage and dropped my gastank this morning and now im stuck at trying to get the 3 rubber gaslines off the tank where the fuel pump is. i got 1 off atleast but the other 2 wont budge and the clips are hard to get at. also does someone have a link with really good directions on what to do when replacing the fuel pump even though i already started? thanks again for all your help.

Actually when i bought the truck a week or 2 ago the guy told me he had just replaced the fuel pump and i belive him that he did because the bolts were new for the engine hoist. Why would it have gone out if he just replaced it?

Well i just took the tank completly off and disconneted all the lines and wires and now its on the side of my truck with the fuel pump pulled out of it. Now should i replace the fuel pump from oriley auto parts for a $80 pump or the $120 pump both have 1 year warrenty or is there a way to fix the pump i just pulled out. I can tell its new and that the guy really did replace it since the plastic is new and the metal is still shiny and everything looks great and new on it. What should i do now?

Anything other than AC/Delco or Delphi and you're taking a chance. Yes, they cost more, but...

I hate to say this, but did you check the fuel pump relay in the glove box as suggested by someone else earlier. put a volt meter on the fuel pump wire and make sure you are getting power to the pump. If no power then your pump may still be good. O and did you or someone else break the 2 vent plugs that the little rubber hoses go to on top of the tank, I always do. Do yourself a favor and replace them with new ones.
