Default Is it true??

I was told when I called about front end bearings and idler arm that there are no such animals anymore, not for the Blazer anyway. Not to be replaced by themselves anyway. Is this really the case on these newer vehicles? You have to replace the whole hub assembly (rotor included?) as the assembly? There is not any adjustment whatsoever? I was looking at my SM and I believe what they are calling the Steering Knuckle is what is considered the Hub Assembly? I just got new tires and was checking the front end out for any needed work. I was going to just have an alignment done even though I was not experiencing any problems. Shop I took it too thought they had a live one on the line then I suppose when I told them that. and called me back to tell me that there was work that was needed before they could do the alignment. $1500.00 worth.
My neighbor, a retired wrench and front end man too, only saw the idler arm and thought the wheel bearings... When I called NAPA they broke the news that one side assembly was three hundred bucks!... Whew, I was not ready for that.
It just doesn't seem right that there would be no replaceable parts for that area but if it is so, I won't be surprised! So I don't want to seem like a total idiot but is that what I am looking at here?
Thanks...[sm=insomnia.gif]

Yes the wheel bearings are part of the hub assembly and they have been since the last body style was designed...1995 (blazer) and 1994 (s-10) on 4WD and the 2WD got the same hub around 1998 IIRC.

Also the hubs are quite expensive (around $400.00 each from a dealer) and the aftermarket ones will yield a bad wheel speed sensor w/in a couple years typically.

I've read that the hub assembly is all one piece. I was wondering if the hub itself could be pressed out and then service the bearings and have the hub pressed back in? Just had to do that on my g/f's Tempo. Dunno if it can be done on the blazer or not.
