Default Trunk lock

My son just got a '97 Blazer that we've got to running pretty good after a little work. He's just discovered a problem with the trunk lock though. Normally pressing the button outside will pop the window open but now it seems to be permanently locked. Even the key won't unlock it. Are these persnickety locks on these Blazers?

Thanks!
