Default Two Problems & Disrespect

First, about 3 weeks ago, someone broke into my car and stole my stereo and all of my tools, my amp, my Bazookas, cell phone charger, ipod charger, my xm radio and even my daughter's car seat. The idiots couldn't get in the lock so they broke out the window. I had to get a new door lock and window. The truck was parked on Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn. This is one of the busiest streets in BK. 6 lanes and service roads in each direction. I couldn't believe it got broken into there in broad daylight. I felt like an a-hole because they used my own tools to take out my equiptment. I just did my laundry the night before and I left a box of garbage bags in car. They put my stuff in my garbage bags.

I got a new radio and installed it the next day. Everything was starting to come together again. I tried to cancel my XM subscription and they sent me a newer radio free of charge. I just had to pay shipping. Then, it happened. I was on my way to work one morning. I was merging onto the L.I.E. to go to the Mid-town Tunnel when I stepped on the pedal, nothing, no engine surge, no tranny whine, nothing cars were honking me and I was just stuck. I tried again to press the pedal and the car took off slowly, when I got up to speed, it was fine. I stopped at the toll booth and it was fine when I took off. I parked the car, went to work and came back for the car around 6:30 pm. I asked the garage owner if he noticed anything wrong with the car when he bought it up and he said no. I got in and drove to the Williamsburg brige and then it started acting up again. The next day I take the car to the mechanic and he asked did I ever change the fuel filter. I told him no and he suspected that was the problem. I go get the fuel filter and he changes it and now the car won't start. FUEL PUMP went on me. OK, I go get the fuel pump and 3 days later I have my car back. It is running like a dream but I am noticing a drastic drop in MPG's. I pick up my mom and she say's she is smelling gas. I said Ma, it is gonna smell like gas for a day or so because they had just changed the pump. She said no, it is too strong of a smell. I had strong air freshener in my truck so I couldn't smell it. I said let me check it to shut her up and when I went under the truck the whole frame was wet with gas. I couldn't believe it. I had my baby in the car and it could have easily been a tragedy. I took the car back to the mech and he "fixed" it. 3 days later, it was still leaking and I took it back to him yesterday. I have to pick it up tonight. I hope all goes well. If not, I need to fix my self. Does anyone know how to do this? It was leaking at the front of the tank.

one of your gas lines could have been broken when they replaced pump. They should have know this though. The vaccuum line on the other end could have broken off. If you have an issue after they repair this, find another mechanic. The fuel pump was your problem. Now obviously the placement of it is.

It's upsetting to hear about your recent problems. This is made even worse when your "mechanic" doesn't check his work. Your mechanic needs to check and repair this fuel leaking problem. It really shouldn't be hard to check as the fuel pressure is at least 50 psi, so if there's a leak, it would show up right away.

Sounds like it may be the seal on the tank where the pump goes in. Your mechanic may not have got the seal back in, it's cracked, or just not seated all the way. Is your fuel full or over 1/2 full? If so, it may be splashing up, and leaking out of the seal. You may also have a line not seated all the way. Get under it with a FLASHLIGHT, not a bulb style trouble light, and look around, you may also need a mirror. You could also feel around up top of the tank.

Update. I go to get the Truck last night and it is sitting on the lift. I am happy as it seems the car was fixed and waiting for me. Then this guy (the mech) comes up to me an shows me a piece he unscrewed from the front of the tank. It had a tube on it and the tube was broken off. He said he broke it taking the tank down the first time (changing the pump) and he "repaired" it by putting some kind of putty on it. He said it was a for a vent hose or something. He said he tried to get it from the parts store because his "fix" wasn't working and that's where the gas was leaking from. The parts store didn't have the part and he ordered it so it is coming today. The more I think about it, the more pissed I am getting. I had my whole family in the truck after I got it back. I think I would have been able to get out but what about my kids. I have two beautiful daughters one is going to be 6 on the 20th and the other is 14. If something would have happened, I would have jumped back into the burning car because I could not live without them. The young guy at the shop fixed my car because the owner was busy. This guy hires people off of the street and puts them to work on peoples car. The guy (young) was actually upset when he saw me back for the third time. I pay the mech his price and always give him a tip. I can't believe this guy would put my family and maybe people next to us in that kind of jeopardy. He is a hole in the wall shop and doesn't even give me a receipt so I could never even prove he worked on my car. WTF man, everything is just crumbling around me. I am still paying for the car.

Some things just go unnoticed. It is very different when you are doing the work on your own vehicle as opposed to someone else working on your vehicle. It shouldn't happen, but mistakes come with being human. Heck, I had a dealership mechanic fail to fully seat the main fuel feed line on my tank when they replaced the fuel level sending unit. Nothing bad happened other than a puddle of fuel in my garage. Could have been a lot worse, but just have to give thanks that it wasn't.

Good luck with the repair and keep your cool! It doesn't pay to get all bent out of shape.
