Uh oh...2001 in big trouble
I don't think my Blazer is going to last much longer. It has been down due to bad rear brakes; however I had to drive it yesterday. I have no power, and when I accelerate to get up hills and stuff, there is a grinding sound that seems to originate towards the back of the motor and the check engine light blinks at me.
On top of that I am having bad electrical problems where all or some of the dash warning lights come on, my fuel gauge goes to empty, my temp gauge goes to cold, my speedo and tach go nuts, and it kicks me out of cruise control.
I have 2 1/2 years left on my payments....what in the world do I do now?

When I had trouble with my gauges bouncing around it turned out to be a ground connection...finding which one can be tricky. It's a two person job where one looks at the gauges while the other wiggles all the wires until the problem presents itself. Your power loss and grinding problem sounds more serious. Most work can be done by the owners but without the right diagnostic tools and knowledge you can wind up replacing things that are fine which gets expensive. If you fall into that category may I suggest you find a local garage that will do diagnosis only. Once you know what's wrong people here can help guide you through any required repairs. An hour of shop time should fall into the $50-80 range unless you live in New York City where the minimum charge is about $1000.
