Default Upgrading some things and need help.

so I just got a 1996 GMC Jimmy two door. It's my very first car and kinda doing a sight restore/upgrade. There are a few things I want to do but have no idea where to start.

First, it has the old radio that doesn't even have a casset deck. I never bought a radio deck before, anything specific I need to look for or do?

Second, there is some slight body rust near the rear whee well and kinda want to make it look less horrible. How do I shop for paint to use after the bondo to match my body color.

And third the right side vent windows latch is broken so it literally just flaps around instead of firmly in place. I have no idea where to find that part, what the technical name is. Only place I have an idea of looking is a junk yard.

Thank you in advance for the help.

Hello! Welcome to the world of Jimmies and Blazers. You'll find this forum to be a very helpful place full of people who have a lot of knowledge and experience to share.

I'm not experienced with body work so I'll leave that question to others to answer. About the radio question, you'll need an aftermarket replacement stereo, an antenna cable adapter, a dash kit, and a wiring harness adapter. Those things will allow you to have the easiest time of installing a stereo. I would also recommend going to the Crutchfield website to look at what components will fit your truck. You can also take a look at car stereo installation videos on YouTube. Those are all great resources to get you started with installing a new stereo in your truck.

For the window latch, you might try looking at RockAuto.com to see if they have aftermarket replacement latches. That can give you an idea about the official name of the part.

Good luck!

Inside the glove box door is a white sticker with a bunch of 3 character codes, one of them tells the paint code. Post an image of the sticker and we can help.

Boneyard will probably be your best bet for the latch.

make sure you sand-blast the rust off before you put bondo on! and if theres a rust hole, the only way to fix it is cut the rusty area out and weld in new steel. any other way than those last two, and I can guarantee you will have rust showing thru your new paint in a matter of a few months or less. I restore classic cars for a living, and would hate to see someone waste their time and money! any other questions about bodywork feel free to ask me!
