Clips: Dealer would be the best place to get the correct part. If they will give you a part #, you can check on the Dorman website Dorman Products and enter the GM part #. Most auto parts stores can get Dorman parts much cheaper than the dealer.
Thermostat should be 195F and it should regulate coolant very close to 200F.
1/2 gal sounds a bit low, but as long as it's full now, that's what matters.

Captainhook you say that on these vehicles that they require a 195* thermostat and normal operating temp is close to 200*?
Also where I can I find an engine vacuum diagram for the 96?
