Default Weird gas tank size?

Hello everyone,

I bought a used 2001 blazer ZR2 a couple of months ago and from what Ive been reading, it SHOULD have a 19 gallon gas tank. Yet when I fill it from E with the gas light on I only see it taking 12 gallons to top off. I'm assuming the gas tank was replaced considering how small the tank is, unfortunately the previous and original owner is not returning my calls about it.

Could the gas gauge be busted, or is 12 gallons the norm?

My gas guage doesn't work either. Common problem with the Blazers. Just track your miles driven and keep an eye on it. My low fuel light seems to come on after I use about 14 gallons. If the tank isn't crushed , and wasn't replaced, my guess would be that the fuel level sending unit is going out. That's what usually causes the problem.

Will do, and thanks for the reply!

I'm pretty sure that's normal. There's quite a large reserve of gas in the tank even when your low fuel warning lights up. I've never put in more than 13 gallons since I bought mine new in 99.

4 doors take 18 gallons, where 2 doors take 19 gallons.

if you really want to test it carry a full gas can along until you run out

I know the gauge on my 05 2dr is not accurate at all , I don't usually let it ever go under a 1/4 regardless

when i first got my truck, the owner just fixed this. what makes the gauge end up not working and such a common problem?

The fuel level sending unit goes bad. From what I understand (correct me if I'm wrong) you have to drop the tank to replace it, and it is attached to the fuel pump. Mine doesn't work either. In fact, the harder I accelerate, the more gas the guage says I have in my tank. Lol
