Question What Exactly Triggers the Brake Warning Light ?

What exactly is being measured when the brake light goes on while applying the brakes ?

My 99 Blazer just started having the Brake light come on whenever I apply the brakes pretty hard. It does NOT come on if I brake normally.

I should mention all (4) brake pads are new within the last year or so.
Also, the pedal is a tad soft/low.

I have an appointment tomorrow AM to have the brake system bled.
