Default What kind of oil viscosity do you use on your 4,3 l V6 Vortec engine?

I wonder what kind of oil viscosity you use on the 4,3 l V6 Vortec engine?

According to the owners manual you have to use SAE 5W-30 or if you live in a cold climate to use SAE 10W-30 or SAE 0W-30

I usually use 15W-40 or 10W40 oil viscosity on my cars so i suppose there is nothing wrong in using that on the old Vortec engine in my old 2000 Blazer?

On my Mercedes SL i use synthetic Mobil 1 oil but on my Corvette C2 i have always used mineral oil

I get 50 percent discount on Mobil oil so i usually use Mobil.
I a thinking of using Mobile Super 1000 15W-40 mineral oil on the next oil and oil filter change on the Blazer

use whats called for, otherwise you may stress the oil pump by going heavier

I wil use 5w-30 oil

I have a friend that is the importer of Kendall oil so i will use either:
Kendall SAE 5W -30 Dexos-1 Motor Oil Synthetic Blend or Kendall GT.1 High Performance Syntetic Blend SAE5w-30 with Liquid Titanium

If i remember correct the Kendall Dexos is a GM approved oil

Personally i have always liked to use oil that contains as much zink as possible

I was sure that i was supposed pure miner\al oil but my friend said i neded to use syntetic blendor part syntetic oil i we call it up here in northern Europe

I think that any of the modern oils in 5W30 would be just fine, synthetic or not. Vehicles with roller lifters do not need the high-zinc oils - and high zinc actually poisions catalysts more rapidly (reason they took a lot of zinc out). I really doubt that either of these oils are truly high-zinc, but I would not hesitate to use either of them in my own 2001 Blazer. I would not use either of them in my 350v8 with a flat tappet cam circa 1971. I think better to worry about proper viscosity than to worry about synthetic/non-synthetic oil and zinc content (if you have a vehicle with a roller cam).

On my modern car i use Mobil Super 3000 synthetic oil and on the Blazer i will use Kendall 5W-30

The 4.3 is pretty sensitive to using the right oil. Just use 5w-30 and you will be fine.

Changed the oil and oil filter today so now i am sure that oil viscosity is correct

I used Kendall GT-1 Dexos 1 5W-30 oil and a new Mann oil filter

I rec. 5W/30 in the cold winter months and 10W/30 in the hot summer months. The 'W' stands for Winter. The 5W flows quicker than the 10W and is therefore better for the winter's cold start ups.
