sounds like something similar to what i had to fix. if you get problems with your ABS light and are able to turn it off by shaking the wheel left to right or pull into a parking spot and the brake drops to the floor, its most likely your hub assembly. its a pain in the butt, and they usually both go at the same time.

Default "Roaring noise" update and new ?

As you may recall I asked about a roaring noise when I steer in my 98 Blazer...
I was guided to the wheel bearing and the steering pump - both have been replaced and guess what... the noise is still there
I am now planning on rebuilding the power steering gear box - anybody have any good advice for me on the rebuild???
Thanks for any help, F T P

I doubt that your steering gear box needs to be rebuilt... Roaring noise fro

the engine seems to indicate clutch fan to me... If you had a bad steering box you would know and it typically doesn't make a roaring noise, I'm no mechanic but I've been selling parts an working on cars long enough to rule out your steering box

Ok, but tell me this, why would the fan clutch roar only when steering the vehicle (either stoped or going slow (10mph or less)). Wouldn't the fan clutch make noise any time it was running?

can you get a sound clip recording ? I'd be interested in hearing it....the reason you are hearing it when you turn at low speeds is because the engine is under high load when turning slow or hard....it doesn't sound like a rattle or knock right, but a roar ? because I had an issue with my flywheel and you could hear it more predominately when turning at low speeds

Here's a stupid idea. Is one of your tires rubbing on the fender or fender well when turning? Did you put oversize tires on or change anything in your suspension?

I will try to get a sound clip, but it is really weird because it will happen for a day or two and then it will go away and may not come back for a week or two. It is describable as a "roar" or "loud "groan".
It is definitely not tires rubbing.
