They're all pretty much the same over those years...although obviously the newer it is chances are the better condition it will be in. Also the most expensive though.

If you go with the mid-02+, the engines have the updated MFI spiders as stock and do not have the problematic EGR system.

Plus, I believe that '02 was the last year for 4 wheel disc brakes to be standard. After that I think the rear ones were optional.

Dont get an 01, they're a problem year. Every make's got one.

Thanks for posting this. I'm kind of looking for an update to our 97 Blazer. Sounds like like I need to look more for an 02. I was looking at a couple of 01s but I'll take your advise on 01s.

By all means dont let my advice stop you.

But I think you'll find that alot of the guys around here with 01s have alot of problems, me included. And I maintain the truck perfectly so the problems dont come from my end.

Ok so maybe I will not get the 01 blazer (trail blazer edition) it hhas low miles
and I can get a warranty. But I just don't want problems down the line cause going to
eventually do the ls1 motor swap

Shoot if it's low miles and got a warranty, go for it! Mine started going haywire just shy of 100k.

How much of a problem do you think those two things are, in 1999-2001 Blazers? Perhaps I was lucky, but I had a 2001 Xtreme from new until I sold it with 146,000 miles and never had a problem with either one. (Maybe they are only a problem past 150,000 miles?)

I'm asking because I'm currently looking for a 4-door now. Here's the dilemma: I agree that if there is a choice. it would be better to have the 2002+ upgrades. BUT, I have not seen any 4-door Blazers with shifters in the console; ALL (except ONE, which I question if it was "original") have column-mounted shifters. Remember the "only" way to get a console-mounted shifter in a 4-door Blazer was to order the TrailBlazer package, but that was only available from 1999-2001 (which was obviously before the 2002+ upgrades). On the other hand, all of the 4-door GMC Jimmys I have seen have had console-mounted shifters. BUT Jimmy production for the USA stopped at the end of the 2001 model year. And that, of course, was before the engine upgrades.

So it doesn't look like I can get what I'd really prefer: a console-mounted shifter and the better quality cloth upholstery that the Jimmy had, plus the 2002+ engine upgrades.

(Please correct me if I am wrong! Thanks!)
