when does your low fuel light come on?
FWIW, after spending over $500 on an oem pump cuz my mechanic won't use a 3d party on something like that, and I don't blame him. If it goes out again under warranty, he has to eats it. I fill it up when it hits 1/2 tank. Pump stays cool that way. That 500 was the cost of just the pump, plus the labor.
Actually, I believe the fuel pump is cooled by the gas being pumped thru itself. Cut an old one apart sometime, you'll see the fuel flows right thru the motor armature. That's where the cooling takes place. As long as you have enough fuel to pick-up and pump, the pump won't overheat.
I've never seen mine come on, and i've run it until it chugged, i get around 300 a tank, so i usually try keep it about a 1/4, especially since my gas gauge is of by like a cm so when it say it has a quarter it is actually more like 1/8
mine comes on....NEVER....hell i'd be in heaven if i had as much gas as my guage tells me...which varies between full and 3/4 of a tank...but around 320 miles i start looking for some more..which is usually around 1/4 tank left
