Default where are?

evening all, my 98 RHD blazer has been playing up lately over heating while towing a caravan but not over heating whilst being driven normally, a high fuel consumption 190 miles to a full 80 litre tank of LPG.

So I got it scanned and the results are:-

P0131 :- HO2S Circuit Low Voltage Bank 1 Sensor 1 ok my first question is where would I find this sensor please? how easy is it to change?

P1870 :- now this I know having read your OBD error message section is to do with the gearbox, is this an easy fix? is it a gearbox out job? can a novice like myself do it?

any advise for a complete no mechanical person would be appreciated.

Many thanks from the U.K

1st. search feature is your best friend. 2nd P0131 should be a O2 sensor, being as its bank 1 should be the one of the 2 o2 sensors before the catalytic converter.

If yours is like my 2001, you should have 2 before the convertor. Many cars require a special slotted socket and/or crow's foot socket (22 mm / 7/8").

My Corvette requires both! Unique to each side.

However, my Blazer's O2 sensors can be easily removed with a 22mm or 7/8" wrench... i.e. spanner.

You can just swap the two, clear your codes, and see if the code follows the suspect sensor. If so, you've confirmed the problem. If it remains the same it may be the connections, wiring, engine issue, etc.

RHD, (Right Hand Drive) B1S1, (bank one, sensor one) is the sensor closest to the exhaust manifold on the left side, (passenger side ).

Not 100% certain, but I believe 98 RHD export has 3 oxygen sensors. B1S3 is downstream of the catalytic converter.

FYI: Bank one is always the bank that has number one cylinder, (left side on a 4.3L engine).

The P1870 might be a faulty torque converter clutch, (TCC) lock up solenoid. Drop the pan and it is easily accessible. Best to follow the flow chart for P1870 first
