Default Whinding sound when stopping

I've noticed when I go to stop, I hear a whinding sound when stopping coming from the front passenger side. The best way I can describe it is it sounds like a turbine whinding down. It isn't present when the truck is in motion though, and you can only hear it when the truck is slowing down and the brake is applied. Any ideas?

I've recently replaced my vacuum actuator and idler arm. 6 months ago, I had the ball joints and wheel hub assembly replaced on that side as well. (Put Moog and a decent brand wheel hub assembly) any ideas?

Do you notice this noise when in 4wd? You could have a sticking transfer case vacuum switch which allows vacuum to be placed constantly on the front differential. When the vacuum switch stuck on mine it would sound like running over rumble strips when braking.

I don't hear anything in 4WD. But seeing as I just replaced the vacuum actuator, its a big possibility I screwed something up. What should I inspect on the actuator?

Here's what you can try: Unhook the vacuum hose that plugs in to the actuator under the battery. With the engine running and in 2wd there should not be any vacuum on the hose. With the engine running and in 4wd there should be vacuum on that hose.

IF you have constant vacuum on that hose then your transfer case vacuum switch is probably stuck. This switch is located near the top of the transfer case above the front drive shaft, has 3 lines that plug in to the top of it, and can be removed with a 7/8 wrench. The plunger on the bottom should push in freely and not stick.

If there isn't a problem there, hook the hose back up and see if the actuator pulls in when the engine is running in 4wd and releases when put in 2wd.

While you are in there you can disconnect the cable and see if it works freely.

Your Brakes are Grinding...have you checked your pads / caliper lately. What about your brake fluid...how long has it been since it was checked / changed?

IDK what is up with these S-10's, but in talking to others in my area over the years, the front passenger caliper always gives people problems. Soon, you may notice that that turbine sound will continue, even after you take up, requiring you to stop, pump the brakes, and take off again.

Air seemed to seep into my 1998's lines all the time. It also seemed to be aggrevated when it was wet outside. But all was fine for a couple of thousand miles once I took the time to take the wheel off, and clean the whole brake area!
