Sounds almost as if it's falling out of gear, that dancing around would be the rev limiter. I had the same problem with my 96 grand am, if it had too many rpms in first gear it would come out of gear and rev up but as soon as it would go down low enough it would shift to second. Whats your year and miles?

its an 03, odometer is non actual so im not sure. doesnt seem like it has a whole lot of miles on it though, the way the engine runs and the way it drives (except that lol) but i mean i guess ill never know . and ive never had it happen going into 2ng gear its usually when im already goin about 45 mph and need to pass someone driving like a grandma. and then i feel like my cars going to fall apart so i have to let off the gas and look like a little b#&%* lol

Definately sounds like a bad trans. I had that same problem too with the grand am, when I would punch it it would try to drop a gear and fall right out the same way it sounds like yours is. Mine mostly was first to second cause I drove that car like I stole it, so all the punishment I gave it really led to the trans dying on top of the fact that it had 175k on the factory trans.
