Wierd transmission
This is going to sound really weird about the 4L60-E. When I got home from school today, I accidentally overshot D and 3 when I got back into the car after getting the mail and was about to go up our steep driveway. I accidentally shifted into 2 and I gave it gas and got very little response. It moved forward SLOW at higher RPM, which I thought it was in 2nd gear (isn't it supposed to go 1-2 in 2????). I put it into 1 and it went up the hill as usual. I tried again in 3 and D and it did it okay and seemed like it was in 1. It seems that if it is in 2, it is starting in 2 because it is not shifting and it feels like it IS in 2 when I got it in 2. Did I break my 2nd gear??? The tranny fluid is red and looks okay, but there is a little residue. The car seems to drive okay, although since there is so much traffic, i couldn't accelerate at a steady enough rate to count the shifts. Also, there are no codes in the computer. We had to get a new solenoid on the tranny one year ago because it was shifting rough(repair bill says "K6353 Solenoid, pressure control replace"). It still shifted rough for another 6 months until I found a loose connector on the PCM, reseated it and had no problems since. They replaced 6 quarts of the ATF at the same time with DEXRON VI. The car has never given me this type of problem before. PLEASE tell me i didn't blow my tranny!!!! Please see the photo of the fluid. I don't know what it could be. It seems to be starting in 2nd with it in 2, but 1 works in 1, 3, D.

If changing the filter helped, you are living on borrowed time. The only thing that plugs up a filter is transmission parts...
I have nothing to base this on as far as the s-series vehicles go, but I know that there are some vehicles that when put into '2' will lock in to that gear to allow for a 2nd gear start. This can be useful in slippery conditions where too much torque multiplication would result in wheel spin.

What is so surprising is we have had alot of problems with this truck (shift fork, TCCM, ball joints, radiator, IMG, wiper motors, power window motor), but I still call it a reliable truck because none of them were serious enough to require a tow truck or leave me at the side of the road. Never had to rip out the AAA card or the emergency equipment, unless I was assisting a friend with a jump start or putting out flares to protect an accident vehicle stuck in a ditch full of snow in front of my house
