Nope only years 94-95 will work.Anything newer had substancial changes in the electronics to be compatible.

not even 94 will work. My trans on my 94 sonoma had to be replaced. Trans shop guy said it wouldnt work that the valve bodys were slightly different. i dunno.

1995 was a one year only deal.

I don't think so, what date was yours made? Half way through 95 im pretty sure they changed it from OBD 1.5 to OBD 2 if its OBD 2 then i think 96-97 will work too. Do some research on that tho, im going from memory. If its OBD 1.5 then i don't even know if a 95 taho or suburban 4l60 would be the same. 95 was so weird Oldsmobile didn't even make the Bravada because of it.

Question

Does the engine have cpi fuel injection or sfi fuel injection? If you have cpi 94,95 will work.96 was a odd ball year, some of the jimmys still had cpi and some of them in late 96 switched over to sfi.

Te valve bodys are exactly the same, they did not change until the more advanced electronic 46le came into the picture.
ONE OPTION if you are unsure would be to have your trans rebuilt which would be a good option if you plan on keeping your truck.
