So how did you determine that the fuel pump is "good"..? Did you run a fuel pressure test? Having the proper fuel pressure (~60psi) is essential to a properly running SCFI engine (assuming that your user name means something about your vehicle since you have provided no other vehicle information).

Also, if you did not check the timing of the spark or its intensity with the proper tools, then it is still unknown as to whether the spark is occurring at the precise moment required or if it is truly strong enough to support combustion.

That could still mean a bad fuel pump. You need like swartlkk said, a fuel pressure test. I did that to verify that my pump IS actually dieing. You pour the fuel in it fires over and then dies means it is using up the fuel you poured in and then has no more. A quick check is to push the plunger at the test port on the fuel line. If I remember the 98 right it should be on the line back near the distributor. that's where you'll do the pressure test. But this way you can see if it's getting ANY fuel.

Most definitely run a fuel pressure test. Without doing so, you can replace some very expensive parts in hopes that they fix the problem.

$150... I bought my tester for $30. I have an older version of the Actron CP7818 available at Autozone for $40.

And unless you want to be replacing your pump again quickly, do not jump on those "deals" you find. AC Delco or Delphi only!
