Won't stay running

I have a 2001 Blazer 4wd 4d. I started leaking gas from my fuel filler neck when I was filling up so I purchased a new one and had my buddy (who is a mechanic) install it for me. The new part did not come with the rubber hose to attach the filler neck to the gas tank. He had to cut the old one off and didn't realize he should have saved it. The tube is different sizes on the ends so he used a heater hose and part of the old hose to make a temporary fix. I drove home (30 minutes) with no problems. I'm having problems finding just that hose. No one carries it. So this morning when I tried to start it, it fired up and idled fine but when I put it in gear it stalled. Then I had trouble starting it. Giving it some gas it fired up again but stalled as soon as I left off the gas pedal. Any ideas?

almost sounds like its unrelated unless something was installed wrong back there and the truck is vapor locking. try loosening your gas gap or just take it off and see if it will run. just dont do that for too long as it will throw a check engine light
might have a vacuum leak or some other issue under the hood
