Default 1999 stock Delco sound system question...

Hello,

I got a 99 Blazer with stock Delco radio, changer and 6 speakers (2 dash, 2 + 2 in front and rear doors). Radio part number is 09367625, I attached an image of it that I found on the net.

I simply can't get decent sound, it just feels FLAT / lifeless...

There is only one **** that combines bass and treble. Great.

The fader **** applies to the front and rear door speakers, doesn't help much...

Built-in EQ settings:

1: ____ (flat)

2: __/ (treble boost)

3: \_/ (bass + treble boost)

4: _/\_ (middle range boost)

My best option is 2 (treble boost) but it still sounds flat / "filtered", lacking treble / highs.

What's the best/cheapest way to achieve the following?

1. I'd like to have cleaner sound with detailed highs without spending too much time / money.
2. I wish most of the sound came from the front (dash) rather than left-right doors.

I suspect the dash only has tweeters. Can/should they be replaced with something better, speakers perhaps? What about the door speakers? What would you recommend?

Is it possible to hack / change the EQ of the stock radio unit to make it sound better?

Componant 6.5 in door speakers . Even though the mid drivers are in the door you will preceive the sound at dash level if the tweeters are there. Nix the rear door speakers

There's nothing you're going to be able to do to that factory stereo to get better sound from it without going through some real trouble and spending some hefty cash. Devices like the JBL MS8, the JL Audio Cleensweep, etc. are all designed to retune the nasty factory EQ curves to get good sound, however they're not designed to simply install that device and then power the speakers through/from it and you would have to install amplifiers to run the speakers. Though it's not a completely horrible option it would be an expesive way to go in comparison to a new aftermarket HU. An aftermarket HU can give you much better overall control of the signal over the factory unit and they typically pack enough punch in their internal amplifiers to do a considerably better job at getting the dynamics of the music across.

The best suggestion I have for you would be to get a new HU and replace the dash and front door speakers with some decent aftermarket ones and forget about the rear door speakers. Trying to stay with a more budget friendly option there are speakers like the Alpine Type S series, Polk Audio Db series, JBL GTO or P series, or the Infinity Reference series are about the cheapest I would consider using. Ensuring proper installation will have a much bigger impact on how they perform than worrying about just how good they are.
