If you had an auxilary cassette deck, then that unit you bought the PIEGM12/9 would work with your vehicle. My understanding is that the PIE GM9 unit works with units 2000+ but of course I have a 98, didn't work but does work in my dad's 02 suburban, so I sold it to him. I really don't know about these newer ones with the different radio but the above thought should work if you had a remote aux tape player from the factory.

Oh and nice mod to the ashtray, never thought about doing that but maybe I will now.

Finally spoke with the roaming tech II programmer who programs radios ect for the area dealers and he wasn’t aware of any programming to enable the inputs on my radio as it was never an option as far as he knows. Still not hundred percent convinced though and as a last ditch effort found a place at Delhi were you can request service manuals for the Delco units, hopefully they include schematics. Also asked if they had any information about what other Delco radios would work in my vehicle or if anyone had a solution for me. Seems the tech II programmer is not that versatile i.e. you cant just add stuff you want it has to be one off GM options (/curse GM) So now I wait for yet another replay.

On another note I came to the realization that my radio is indeed double DI N 4" /bonk me, not sure why I kept thinking it was din and a half guess it was a couple of webs sites sizing my radio dash opening. So that opens up some more options for a possible new unit. (if I have to) A long long time ago Kenwood were good radios and clarion were junk, but it seems Clarions are a lot better now but I heave heard little of Kenwood.

Are kenwood radios in general any good these days.?

I also noticed a lot of CD players don’t have anti shock memory is this a feature of the past?

Finally received a replay from Delphi and they included the service manual in PDF format which included the pin out on the back and complete internal schematics of the unit. It looks doable, maybe hack into the CD pre-amp out which is marked on the schematic, probably would just have to have a CD running. I have nothing to loose at this point other then time cause if doesn’t work going to break down an get a new unit. Only real problem is I cant take it out and play with it on my bench, will have to check inputs while attached to the vehicle. Need to wrangle up an extension harnes

If anyone wants a copy of the Service manual or pin out diagram drop me a pm.

Most radios still come with a anti shock memory thing but it is usually titled under a different type of name or just isn't listed as one of the main features since it is expected to be there.

I now have an Aux input for my stock GM radio, and it sounds great! All tone and level controls work fine.

Finally with the help of the schematic traced it out and located CD output and input to pre-amp which was conveniently on a plug wire and line level voltage <1v. So took apart the unit again, took the CD player part out to get to the bottom of it, located the plug/jumper (J3) and found the shielded and audio wires going to (J3). Easy enough to splice into the them. Two audio wires and one shielded common and solder them up to a shielded extension wires. Then I wired them through in a double toggle on/on switch and I can switch between CD player or Aux-input. For now the switch will reside in my mp3 storage counsel (Ashtray until I find a nice looking flat rocker type double toggle on/on switch to mount in the empty cassette slot on the front of the unit.

Now I took my spare MP3 DLO dock cable I ordered form DLO the folks that make the FM modulator ($10 a bargain) and cut off the end that would plug into the DLO unit and figured what wires were what . This took some time as I wanted to be sure as to not fry my player. I have the Creative Zen Vision M version but there is an IPod cable you can get from them as well butI don’t know if the color code for the IPod is the same as his the Vision. The plug /wire also has the +/-5 voltage wires to charge your unit, so I hacked a cheap mp3 car charger and wired it in for charging power. Some pics.

Black Common - Power -
Red Common - audio - note:black and red tied together in player.
Green + 5v
Blue Audio L/R - never took the time to figure L/R realy doesnt matter to me for just music.
Brown Audio L/R
Note: The audio coming form the cable is line level not head phone level out put
The cable I am using from DLO and the colors posted here are for the Creative Zen Vision M (which also works with Zen sleek and Z S photo.) The Ipods version might be different. As always check you Vs.

For now a CD has to be in the unit for this to work – No biggie really as there is already a hack for a cassette deck unit to send out a signal saying it is running when its not. Just have to scope out what the CD players running data signal is. Eventually I will look into this but for now I am just glad to listen to my mp3 player!

Do you happen to have any pictures of the HU with front control covers off (ie. showing the lights that light up at night)? Thanks, I am just wondering if I can change out the LED's to blue or not. Thanks for the help.

Hey Lenny

Was thinking the very same thing last time I had the unit all apart and took the back PC board off to look at how the diodes were attached. All I have is a pic of the back of the front cover but you can see where the LED leads come through and are soldered on the back side. I did open the cover last time and there are lots of clear strange-shaped plastic pieces used to difuse the LED light that are just being held in there by the back cover. So if you open it make sure the face plate is down because trying to figure out where they go is not fun. You could un-solder and replace with super bright LED’s equivalent, my unit has 8 or 9. Anyway I would send away for the schematic and user manual since you have a different unit and it’s always nice to have around anyhow.
