6 factory speakers with 4 speaker wire harness
Hey guys, I'm new to the forum. I have some experience with car audio / video but not a ton. I have a 2001 Blazer and I'm planning to replace to the factory stereo with an aftermarket pioneer. My question is that the blazer has 6 factory speakers and the new wiring harness only has 4, what do I do with the dash speakers. I'm not replacing any of the speakers yet and I do plan installing a sub and amp later on. Do I just wire the four front speakers together or wire them in series, or just forget about the dash speakers. Just curious what other people have done with their blazers, and if there is anything else I should watch out for when doing the install. Thanks.

Correct, they share wiring with the front door speakers. You can confirm this buy fading the sound to either the left front or the right front, and both the door speaker and tweeter in the dash will play.

The ones in the dash are tweeters. Factory wiring has a crossover for them - can't remember where it is located, but you may not want to use the factory wiring once you replace speakers (I didn't as everything came from an external amp in the back of mine.) But for now, just wire for the four speakers at the back of the radio if you are using factory speakers and your 6 speakers will work fine. Re-do this later if you put an amp and sub in. You should be using pre-outs to go to your external amp anyways.
Good luck

If memory serves me correct, it's on the tweeter assembly itself. Nothing more than a small capacitor.

Yeah, I suppose calling it a crossover was a bit of a stretch!! But I couldn't remember if it was in the tweeter itself or not. New system actually has a little crossover box before splitting to each speaker component.
