Default 6" front door speakers in 99

So i took my door panel off yesterday to see how much depth i had to work with for some new speakers and realized my speakers are only 6", not 6.5. They are in the blue delco speaker housing and i cant see a way that a 6.5 would fit in there which is unfortunate since it is hard to find decent 6" speakers. Has anyone else had this problem?

That's odd, my 98 zr2 had 6.5's in the blue housing. Are you 100% sure they're only 6's? Maybe take the stock speaker into the store and compare it to possible new speakers.

THey should be 6.5" stock speakers. I have an '01 and it had 6.5" factory delcos that I removed to install my new Kicker 6" components. Yes... 6" components. They ROCK! I am using an Alpine 150 watt per channel RMS amp though. MRV1000 (old school amp).... Anyway... if you go paroozign through Crutchfield's website or even Ebay, you'll find some great examples of 6.5" speakers to install in there. Look for high DB sensitivity, wide frequency response and then price (if it matters to you).

Kicker, Infinity, JBL, Kenwood, Rockford Fosgate, MB Quart, etc... are some examples of good brands to choose from. You can even browse through Best Buy's website for decent speakers to research. I personally LOVE Kicker Resolution series speakers for mids and highs.

In the doors, make sure to use at least a sheet of Dynamat or sound deadener of your choice to reduce road noise and vibration. You'll be glad you did. It really makes the door speakers come alive! I completely lined the back of each door panel with Dynamat, and then anywhere I could on the door shell itself as well. BIG difference in road noise.
