Well, first of all what size are the sonys?
There is a whole thread (actually about 4 of 'em) deicated to what size OEM speakers you have. If you are just trying to jam new speakers in the old speaker slots, they need to match up in saize fairly closely to fit better.
If you mean they do not fit the stock speaker housing, then use the spacers they came with (black plastic rings) to help addapt your speakers to the stock housings.
You can also use the self tapping screws that come with the speakers and make your own holes on the stock housing.
If you mean they are too deep, then on't cut into the rear door inner skin, otherwise your windows won't roll up anymore

i guess what I mean is, we are going to need to know more to help you in any meaningful way

did you search the OEM speaker size thread to compare your year and style (i.e. 1997 4 door, etc) with the speaker size chart showing what you have> if you have 6x9's your new 6.5s WILL fit, they will just take a bit of fabbing

You could do what I did with my rears, take off the door panels, pull out the crap stock ones, put the door panel off, cut out the grill, pull the wires through, solder them to the speakers slap the speaker in and use drywall screws to attach it to the door haha. Prob does not look as bad as it sounds considering the grills on the speakers cover the screws, acually looks pretty cool and sounds great which is all that matters!
