alternator question??
ok i have 3 wires on my alternator,,,one on a bolt and 2 on a plug on the back/side/edge on my alternator im gonna put a small system in it till i get a hc alt. and build it better and louder my question is with only like 12 or 14 ga wire on it ,it wouldnt hold up to a 480 rms amp so i need to put a straight wire in there to keep the charge up and going so where would i connect the fused wire to the alt so i can keep a good charge????

RE: alternator question??
You want to connect to the battery not the alternator. Let the battery take the nit and the alt will keep it charged.

RE: alternator question??
well i like my music loud so i know my battery wont hold up to it with only a 12 or 14 ga wire connecting to the battery from the alt cause i dont wont to over load the battery and have to replace it again in about 2 or 3 months, cause like i said i like it loud and i like to show it off alot too,

RE: alternator question??
I have a 1/0 wire ran directly from the battery to the alt as part of the big 3. The wire goes to the stud on the alt that currently goes to the battery.

RE: alternator question??
thats my big problem is that there is no wire going to the battery from the alt im just gonna use 8 or 4ga wire since its only 2ft distance between them and what size fuse should i use then??????

RE: alternator question??
You have to realize the battery has crazy current available. the alt only has about 50 amps. Run a 0/1 awg cable to the pos of the battery. It will be fine.

RE: alternator question??
theres no reason why i should spend 15 to 20 for 0/1 ga wire when 8 or 4 ga will work im just getting through till i get all my money together this spring or summer when im gonna sound deaden and insulate everything put a killer system in it a bigger alt better wire power windows/locks so all i need till then is 8 or 4 ga to handle what i have now
