Default bad alternator or higher amp?

kinda of a dumb question but im a noob to car electronics. lol I just put a new 300watt amp and a 10in kicker sub in my 95 blazer and everytime i have it turned up I can see the amp gauge go down, the rpm drop some, and the lights dim. Does this mean I need a higher amp alternator or my alternator is starting to go bad?

I highly doubt you need a bigger alt for 300 watts... Check your alternator to see if it's still good. It could be good enough for stock usage, but may be a bit weak for a stereo. Upgrade your wiring. The big 3 upgrade, and may I suggest upgrading the alt-junction box wire and cleaning the posts on the junction box (I had problems with voltage and it was a bummed junction box connection).

Short of that, maybe someone else will know what to check for.

I'm running a stock alt with a 500 WRMS soundstream with a DVC 12" Kaption. I don't have ANY dimming at all.
