so question for you box makers, im trying to understand ports and box size so the image i have below is to help me get my point across on what i am asking. now i may be over thinking here but would my port cut out of the box volume like lets say image 1 or 2, or would the box volume be like 3. and if it is like 1 or 2 which would be correct? and if i just confused you... i confuse myself too.

that sight will help a lot. but when calculating the size of your box with port, you calculate the size without port (option 2 i believe). the port is the port, its not the box.

so, good luck with your build and lets see some pics of it as you go

If not using a calculator that already does this, subtract the port and driver displacement for your net volume.

I vote Fi. If the type r's you have now are the newer ones, give them some more power first

I agree with Jason. See how you like the r's with beastly power diets and then are if its not enough, which we all know it never is. I would say fi but the problem is that when you port those suckers and crank it, they won't play very high frequencies, I.e. 60 and above, very well. So you may need to lower your speaker crossover points to get the best sound out of your system.

i have the older type r's and id like to sell them when i get the 18 so i dont want to blow them up. i wouldnt sell them for that much though because craigslist around here is FULL of type r's.

why FI for you guys? i was dead set on a BTL forever and then last night i saw the RE sub with a review. have you guys heard them both?

also i thought that would be the case so i was thinking of getting a 10 FI BL or Q fiberglassed for that stupid tire jack spot. i think id only have the BTL hooked up on a switch for pissing off all the kids around here thinking there subs are hot ****.
