Default breathing room for amp

this weekend i am putting my system into my 97 blazer and i wanted to build my box so that the amp was resessed into the box. my question was how much breathing room for my amp do i need to have for it to work properly? if anyone knows of a design for my box let me know.

i think we all may require a little more info on your plans, as for what I do draw from your statement..it really depends on the make and type of amp your going to enclose. Cheaper less quality amps seem to run very hot and don't allow heat to escape that well, having said that your better amps can also run really hot if there sealed wrong. if the amp your installing has a fan be sure not to block that in anyway, but if you could explain your installl a little better maybe I can be of more help.

being that it has cooling fans on the amp just don't block them and if you really want to help yourself go and buy a 40-80mm cpu fan and engineer it so that it'll allow the heat to escape the set up your doing. what kind of speakers are you pushing anyways?

If you are clever you can position the amp so that as it heats up it will draw its own cool air across the heatsinks. Just remember that hot air rises and cool air falls, if you position the amp so that there is something like a chimminey above the amp somewhere, the hot air will rise up through the chimminey and draw in cool air from below. Passive cooling can be quite effective if you are thoughtful in ducting the intake and exhaust.
