Default Dashlights not working 2004 S-10 Blazer

I just finished installing an aftermarket stereo. Now that I am done everything works except for when the headlights are turned on the instrument panel lights do not turn on. Also the temperature/compass light turns off (does not dim). Does anybody have any suggestions?

disconnect the illumination wire from your harness. It should be the orange or orane/white stripe wire depending on the brand of aftermarket radio. See if that does the trick for you...

Thanks for the reply. I tried that after the install and it did not work. The original install I connected the solid orange on the stereo which is Dash Light illumination. I then tried the orange/white on the stereo is for dimmer and that doesn't work either. I am really baffled by the fact that everything works perfectly fine until I engage the headlights. I am thinking it is related to the dimmer but if it didn't work I would think I would have blown one of the fuses.
