Has anyone used jbl club 6 1/2s? Crutchfield recommended them to me. I have lanzar max 3 ways now and they're crappin out on me. Just wondering if the jbls would be better.

I have just installed some 6 1/2 JBL club 6522 in the rear position of my ZR2. They are crisper and have better range than the 18 year old Bose 5.5 they replaced.

they have been lasted 2 weeks so far.

cool. That's the exact ones Crutchfield recommended. They have convinced me to get the jbl club 6500c components for the front doors ,use the tweeters in the factory dash location and use the 6522s in the rear doors . Mine didn't come with the Bose system .I had to replace all of the speakers when I bought the truck and replaced them with lanzar max 3 ways .I didn't pay but 20 bucks a pair for them so the jbls should definitely be an upgrade. I hope . Lol

Im using a Jensen VX3518 head unit and a Pioneer GM D1004 amp for my door and dash speakers . The amp is 45 watts x 4 which definitely an improvement over 14 watts x 4 from a head unit. I really wanted a Pioneer dvd player ,but they're all over 400 dollars for the single din version . I'm always on a budget .

on a forum based on a platform that hasn't been built since 05, I doubt there are many deep pockets. 😁

I know right? Lol I'm runnin two massive audio 12s that I only paid 100 each for, a Rockville db16 amp cea rated at 2000 watts rms that I paid a lil over 200 for and a Rockville hybrid capacitor that I paid only like 80 I think. And the amp actually puts out the 1400 watts rms I need without distortion . I was impressed . Lol It a took a few months to get it all together, and I'm still working on it as you can tell . Lol Not to mention the mechman alternator, Odyssey battery, and all the 0GA battery cables.

Sounds like a great setup.
But you know, that's always been a problem for me. Knowing what's going to sound best in the vehicle isn't actually knowable until you hear it for yourself. I've dumped wads of cash into sound systems in previous vehicles over the years and only gotten mediocre performance. Other times I've done the simplest thing like add one 10 inch sub and a modest amp (say around 600 watts) and been astounded by the difference.
I'm currently running the OEM unit with upgraded speakers at all the stock locations in my 2 door and it's just kind of ok sounding to me.
Looking at the available space in the doors, I think 8 inch subs could be made to fit there with little modification. Probably for the rear as well. Then run a 4 channel amp to those and run some good quality tweeters in the dash but only power them directly off the head unit. In theory it seems like it would be a very good setup.
Has anyone run bigger speakers in the factory locations successfully?

I am more on the economy side so I used a Kenwood BT772HD as this is more a work/trail/camping rig so having the connections for the iPad means we can music even when the cell service is non existent.

Green blazer, I've never thought about using larger than 6 3/4 in the doors . Not sure how it would sound. Only thing to do is try and see . And you're right . It's hard to know what sounds good until you try it. A lot of trial and error. And sometimes a Lot of money . Lol

2001ZR2, I've got a 32g flash drive with music, a 128g SD card in my phone filled with music, plus I've got music from Spotify stored offline on my phone . I've got so much music it's ridiculous. Lol Cell service or no cell service, I've always got music. Can't live without it.
