i have a cheap *** set up. 2 12" HiFonics in a subzero box, 4 6.5 jls in the door and alpine 4x6s in the dash all being pushed by a 700 watt 5 channel. Underpowered as all hell, but still hits pretty good. I need to drop in my JL 500 watt mono , and 300 2 chan to complete the system.

What are you looking for? You can get a HU with iPod and aux for less than $100. As long as you are not too proud to rock Clarion. The 2 12's and box were less than $100 at a sweet tent sale. The 4x6's were spendy and the JLs are probably the most expensive component. I would say a decent set up will run you $350 ish before install. And it only gets better with $$$.
Merry Christmas yo.

I got a kenwood mono type-d 600w pushing one 12" kicker comp, and a sony bluetooth reciever pushing my doors and hi's. I will eventualy get a 4 channel amp and new doors.

the biggest dif between getting 12s or 10s ( the way I understand it) is that 12s have more of a BOOM sound, and 10s have more of a POP/THUMP sound. hope it helps.

I wouldnt say that.. The boomiest "system" Ive ever heard was driven by 8s.. The boom vs pop is more about how the box is tuned....

You can find premade cheapy sealed boxes for $20-50.. no where the best option, but defiently the cheapest.. If you want better performance from what speakers you chose, then have a ported box custom made. If you want boomy, have it tuned low.. if you want poppy, have it tuned high.. The bigger the box, the better the subs will be able to perform.

I am a big fan of Arc Audio.. Image Dynamics is also excellent.. If you are after cheap, any mainstream brand is ok (Pioneer, Rockford Fosgate, Kenwood, Infinty, Sony, etc)..

I guess it is all a matter of opinion and how much you want to spend, my whole system is going to be around $700 but you could do it with Alpine Type-s's for much less. let me know what you think.

Ding ding ding, you are correct.

I had one 12" diamond sub in a ported box, pushed by a 500 watt sony xplod amp. It sounded awesome and the pricing wasn't too bad. The sub was 200 new, the box 50, and I don't recall how much the amp was. All off that was topped of by a Kenwood HU at one point and a Dual 7" flip-out at another.\

You get more bang for more bucks.

I'm running
(2) 10" Kicker Comp VR on a 800w 2 channel Alpine.
(4) 6.5" Pioneers in the doors on an 400w 4 channel Alpine.
Pioneer P6800MP Head Unit.

I love my system that was given to me free for helping rebuild my buddy's Thunderbird for him.
