Installing a late-model stereo

Installing a late-model stereo
Hey all. I'm sort of partial to the 2003 and newer Delco CD/AM/FM stereos. My current Theftlock stereo is giving me fits and most of the lights are burnt out. I'd like to upgrade to a newer junk-yard pull or ebay find.
Question is will the stereo from a late-model S-10 fit in a 2000 dash opening/bracket set-up? Or do modifications need to be made? Thansk in advance.

RE: Installing a late-model stereo
im pretty sure it'll fit.
If any modifications are needed it'll be minimal

RE: Installing a late-model stereo
will fit fine.only diff will be the wiring harness. newer ones will be the 70-2003 and others will be 70-1858. Can give you hte actual wire colors if you need to hard wire it.

So it won't be plug and play? Hmm. How much wiring work will be needed? If I recall, they don't give you much room to work with on the factyr harness....

not muck work, in fact, i think almost all of the wiring will be the same, just a diff plug.

You can buy a wiring harness adapter from a g.m. dealer for this. It will have a female plug to match the male plug in your factory harness and a male plug on the other end to match the new radio. They cost about $40.00-$50.00 IIRC. This is a direct bolt-in, but you will also need to have it programmed by a dealer because the newer style radios actually have the VIN programmed into them for the theft feature (they do this so you can disconnect the battery/loose battery power without having to get it unlocked).

Thanks guys, good to know. I thought just by looking that the newer stereo required a bigger opening than the '00 dash has. So I should be able to mount up with the brackets it has?

you can fudge with the mounts. I have a box of those in my garage.

I'm looking at one out of an '04 Trailblazer. Think it will fit with the same amount of finagiling?
