Installing new speakers
Hi! I am in the process of replacing all of the stock speakers in my Blazer with new ones that actually function. I have a 2001 4-door, not the kind that came stock with a Bose system. I don't have a whole lot of car audio experience, most of my experience with tech stuff is from my job as a sound technician for live events in my area. I figured it would be an easy job, and I was right for the most part. I got the front door speakers replaced and moved on to the rear doors. After removing one of the rear door panels I realized that even the shape of this speaker is different than the front door's. I bought two pairs of Pioneer 6.5" 3 ways from my local Walmart and I thought that I would double check to see if I need a different type of speaker for my rear doors. so the question is: Do I? Thanks for any and all help with this!

when i replaced mine, i had to get custom brackets (basically plastic rings) that adapt with the new speakers . because im not sure they make 5 1/4'' speakers. most common is the 6.5 you have. i ordered from crutchfield and they came with the speakers i purchased

Scosche SAC-656 Speaker Mounting Brackets Fit select 1980-up vehicles — adapt 5-1/4" or 6-1/2" speakers to fit in stock locations at Crutchfield.com
so basically with these you can have up to 6.5'' speakers

Thanks for the links and info! I suppose I should have measured the stock speakers before buying the the 6.5's so I'll have to return those anyway, but still my question is not completely answered. I now know that I need a different size than I had already purchased, but the speaker types are different between the front and rear doors. if you look at a picture or the actual speakers you'll notice a strange conical project coming out of the center bulb of the rear speakers and I've never seen this before. Is it just something on the stock speakers or should I be looking for a special pair of car speakers to put into these doors? Thanks again for the good info though!

personally i put four of the same pioneers models and i havent noticed a difference in sound...i mean obviously the pioneers sound better. but from what im to understand, the top of the dash have the tweeters for highs, and since there isnt subs in the truck, the mids and the lows go to the speakers. the only thing i could think why the rear speakers were different because they handled the lows (bass). when i checked via crutchfield the offered the same speakers (only difference is size though) for front and rear.
