just curious, did you use any internal bracing in the enclosure?

its all external brace work to keep the cubic feet to the original plan. granted i could of done internal but the box would have to be slightly larger than what it is, theres 2 quarts of rustoleum in the enclosure to further seal everything... the external bracing adds more visual appeal, snug over the wheel wells, and left a nice pocket for my emergency roadside kit

it is very loud everywhere and slams the low notes hard.

ill be building a slot ported enclosure for a punch hx2 10, due to size requested the airspace is a little much, so internal bracing will be used to shave down the internal cubic feet

external baracing will help, but with an enclosure that large, it is still going to flex like crazy which effects your sound. you can use bracing (metal rods) that use hardly ainy ari space. In situations like this, the structual integrity gained outweighs the lost airspace

Hx2's!... Lucky. I love old rockford stuff. I found a deck on craigs list for $40. Sound quality was good for 8 ohms but anything under that sounded like garbage. How do the subs sound? I want to get a pair but cheap.

with the physics of the box and how it is laid together it does not flex much if at all. the braces themselves leave 5.5 inches on the sides, and about that on the back side. the only part thats not 1.5inches thick is the bottom which gravity helps because its so heavy. the rear floor of a blazer doesnt flex and the weight of the enclosure itself keeps itself from flexing...

this is not a metered setup, this was built for a daily driving adventure, and something for me to do. but yes, i did have the big concern of enclosure flex and tossing steel brace work inside the enclosure was not an option, if it does wear in and start to flex it'll be addressed then with being rehashed into a 1.5" thick setup

HX2's the old school ones came in 2 flavors the power HX2 (10's handled 2200 RMS) and the punch HX2 10 handles about 1000-1200 RMS either way in their properly assigned home and good clean power to them they sound awesome.

1 punch HX2 10 in a 1ft^ sealed enclosure sounds pretty damn impressive in a jeep off a sony monoblock (the new style thin amps) however it was mentioned that it wasnt loud enough so the hunt is on for a amp with good power, and for me to make an enclosure to maximize the sound lol.

IF i had the cash id definitely hunt down 2 power HX2 12's,its just something awesome about a woofer that has 4 inch dual voice coils and a magnet structure as big as the woofer itself lol...not cheap though i found 2 for 190 EACH shipped, but they are awesome

Yeah the older Rockford stuff is awesome. I had a 2003 ish power1000.1bd and it was a beast for the wattage claims. Only thing wrong with it is it one day it just started letting cd player mechanical noise through the subs. Figure the RCA inputs might have came loose. I'll open it up and look one day, lol.

Taba, nice box build. Looks sturdy as hell.

Im not saying it will flex like crazy, but if you were to get a highspeed camera and able to watch the flexing, you would see that it is much more significant than if it was internally braced.

that looks great taba. it probably gets pretty loud in there when wanted though right?

for the sub face wall, i assume you double layered the 3/4 to get the 1.5 right? how'd you hold it together?

yea, i used 2) 3/4 mdf panels and sandwiched them together with interior/exterior adhesive and then dropped 2" inch screws all around to secure it in key spots. the woofers each have 4 screws that go through the whole mounting surface and all the screws in the enclosure in general that managed to go all the way through the whole enclosure were trimmed down and sealed up flush with the interior walls.

since its been in the truck I have had maybe 3 times to actually crank it, and its very very loud, but so clean and clear. I worry about my steering wheel and dash now and the plastic cross piece that ties both sides of the roof rack together... massive movement down in low hertz ranges lol

I was at a party lastnight and was enlisted to build up a black 4x4 blazer, all the owner needs is a new deck and an amp to power some very pretty Digital Design 12's

You better post pics of the DD build. Those are some crazy subs. I'm currently sitting at best buy while the guy runs my power wire. I'm not crazy enough to drill my own firewall haha.
