there is no better. It's personal preference and it all depends on how the sub is built to determine what box to put it in

i miss the sound of my 2 12w3v3s sealed. they were nice a crisp but got loud when "need be" as i used to say. i have a ported 12w7 and i don't like the sound. i'm going to build a sealed box sooner or later to see which sounds better

how much port area do you have on the current box and what's it tuned to?

You could do what i did, and (accidentally) let one part of the enclosure get soaked before you load it, and hook it all up at max volume, and watch the side of the enclosure fly off. lol

Then, listen to it. Sealed and ported! lol

i have 408 inches of port and its tuned to 31hz. i'm tuned a little lower than JL spec and the box is literally about 1/100 of an inch bigger. instead of 1.75 i'm 1.762 or something like that

you sure your figures are right? theres no way you have 408sq in of port, my box i think has 88-90 some sq inch and I have a 5 1/2" wide port

hold up.... its 1.5 wide by 13.5 tall... i read the wrong column.

square port length: 25.75
square port area : 18.75
Square port volume internal: 482.8125
Square port volume displaced: 499.3125

18sqin of port isn't really that much, do you have any port noise?

Now hear me out, but when a member of DIYMA modelled a 12w7 in winisd the boxes that show the most potential are 2.2 cuft sealed, or, yes.. hold your breath. 5cuft @ 21hz ported.

I personally don't see how that's even remotely close to accurate, i've never seen anything that wild.

I would probably go 2.2 @ 34-36hz, 25-30sq in of port, but that's me
