Power door locks

Power door locks
Okay, so awhile back I aquired some factory GM power door lock units...
The only problem is last time I looked under the plastic, there was a nice piece of door covering the lock from any type of easy access...
Is my only option lots of cursing and swearing, or is there a magic way that I don't know about to drop in the power units?
I know I'll have to run my own switches... As the switch panel that came with the locks are from a 4 door with power windows, lol.
Anywho, tips, tricks, suggestions for the power lock installation are all welcome!
If need be I can pop my door open and take a pic of what I mean...

RE: Power door locks
Um, im confuzzled. Ya might want to take a pic because i have no clue as to what part of the door thats blocking it. Unless you mean the inner metal shell of the door?

RE: Power door locks
I guess what you're referring to is the 'water shield'. If so, the Haynes manual says "For access to the inner door, carefully peel back the plastic water shield. If you're careful, it can be reused." Real detailed info, huh?

RE: Power door locks
Not sure how the factory GM locks work, but if it is just a a basic actuator then it should strap to the door lock rod somewhere...
maybe this helps, maybe it doesnt... http://www.a1electric.com/door_locks.htm

RE: Power door locks
It's not the plastic water shield...
Directly over the whole latch assembly, the part that locks and keeps the door shut, there's a chunk of metal covering where it sits...
I'll go snag a pic so I can show ya... or see if I've got one of my door already.
After finding out how my door looks inside, it makes me kinda wish that I'd gone the actuator route instead of the factory GM route, lol
