im wanting remote start but would like to keep the factory key fobs... so im need one to hook to the factory keyless system.. i have a 1996 zr2, so i dont have the gm passlock system... any ideas, thanks...

i found this one on ebay i really like but the guy said it would not fit...

Is there a black square piece with a strip of metal on it in your ignition key?

 

a 96 blazer does not have passlock. did not come standard until 1998 on blazers. I cant pull up that ebay link right now, but i install these for a living. most units that are an add on to the factory key fob lack seriously in the range of transmitters. most times you can get a nicer unit that will also do locks and hatch release for pretty cheap.

 

I was under the impression that Passlock II is standard on 98 - 05 Blazers and 95-97have Passlock I. At least that's what I gather from the Blazers that have come into my shop. I've done a remote start in a 96 or 97 before and it did have Passlock I.

 

in all my years of installing (12+) including putting a remote start on my fully loaded 97 blazer and my fathers matching 96, no passlock on a blazer from 95-97. some first gens had, some not.

this unit is tens times better than the one you found, and about the same price!!

yes, you will. PM me if you need help installing the unit. I put that unit in my 97 blazer (b4 i sold it)

yes, you will need a bypass for the passlock system. i would suggest the GMBP, PLJX or the 556L

 

HillBilly: I have a 98 LS Blazer but donot think I have passlock as there is not a strip on my key. Would it be alright to get one of the systems above. Which of the two avital systems did you get and how well did it work?
