Default Probably a stupid question

I will have my four doors filled with 6.5' infiniti kappas, I honestly don't have much experience with cars / audio, so here goes, I have never heard of people hooking up amps to interior speakers until recently, forget subs/amp, I am just wondering what the hell is up with hooking up amps to interiors, if I had the four doors filled with kappas, should I get a 4-channel amp, if so, how do you hook it up, what's the point, etc... Sorry again, stupid question, I just have NO idea on interiors and hooking up amps to them ... If you don't understand what I am asking / saying just tell me what you don't understand and i'll try to clarify.. Also, with 4 kappas, what type of amp should i buy?..So, you get a 4-channel amp, Kappas can handle 75rms so, example, 60rms by 4channels would be good? How do you hook SPEAKERS up to an amp, and have the headunit still powering them? What the hell, so confusing...AND, my 45x4 watt headunit distorted the kappas at about 50% volume, why wouldn't an amp putting out more wattage do the same? And if I have a separate sub/amp should I still hook them up to an amp? Ahh

I wouldnt run more then 55 rms through them just to stay with the 3/4 of max rms rule. I dont have any amp hooked up to my 4 speakers and they sound just fine. Just get a nice HU and dont buy sony like I did lol. Thats my advice, but I would wait till hillbilly replys cause he will give you some good advice.

yea, about 55-60 watts will be great for those speakers. Look into a 4 channel amp, here are a few odel numbers i got from Crutchfield.com for ya, Fosgate 450.4, almpine MRP-F250, Pioneer GM-43004 or even the Kicker zx350.4 i got that one from woofersetc.com.
The reason that your HU distorts at medium volume, is because they dont put out very clean power. You will get a lot more response froma decent 4 channel amp. if you want good sound, get a good amp. I have an amp/sub and i still amp my coxial speakers, so the bass doesnt overpower my other speakers, i like to actually hear the music.

To run that amp for the fronts, you will have to run new speaker wire to each speaker, all terminating in the rear where you place your amp. then you run RCA's from your HU to the amp, thus getting the signal from your HU to your speakers!

those kappa's will sound great amped

So to hook an amp up you need a deck with preouts, the higher the voltage the better(usually ranges from 2-5v)

then its the same as a sub amp, power from the battery to the amp, ground from the amp to a bear metal bolt, remote wire from amp to deck, rca's from amp to deck(preout) then speaker wire from amp to speakers.

Thanks guys, so the speakers are not connected directly to the headunit, but to the amp, which is connected to the headunit? No

Yeah I just heard about amping interiors when my brother told me, he has the Monsoon system in his grand am, sounds f*in great for a factory system, just as good if not better than any Bose factory system i've heard, and if i'm right Monsoon and Bose have amps to their systems...Well when I get around to doing it i'll make sure to ask you guys what wires and etc I need...because i'll need some help installing everything for sure O.O. I will be sure to amp my Kappas now though. Ill just need help doing it, seems like running the wires will be quite the project for a newbie, LOL.

I read somewhere about having to turn off the internal amp in the headunit if I do this? Bah. ?

Running wires way seem a little daunting, but it really is quite easy.

hardest part is getting it thru the firewall, but I think there is a rubber grommet on the passenger side, hillbilly will know.....

then its just a matter of unscrewing the plastic pieces that run along the bottom of the doors and pulling up the carpet enough to jam some wires under.Run them to the back cargo, and voila!

cant comment on the internal amp......never had to deal with that.....

Oh, it'll be an 01 or newer blazer 4dr, have to wait till my car sells to know for sure, but I already have all four 6.5' kappas, and will be ordering my headunit on payday ( tomorrow ), so from what you guys have said i'll probably be ordering a 4-channel as well, not sure which one, probably the Alpine one you mentioned in your earlier post, because it's the cheapest and i'm on somewhat of a tight budget, is there any certain wiring kit or anything I should be ordering tomorrow along with the amp and deck? I have no idea what they come with, because i'll be a first-timer to www.onlinecarstereo.com.
