Anyone ever install a remote start on their blazer?
I'm thinking of installing my first one on my 95. Any recommendations of what to get/how to do it?

i have a viper XV790 alarm with remote start in my blazer. i didnt install it, but when i was talking to the installer, he said DO NOT install it unless you have very extensive knowledge of the cars computer system and wiring.

I have heard the EXACT same thing about aftermarket alarms and remote starters. If installed wrong, a remote starter can make your car inoperable.

I have had remote start on all 3 of my Blazers. I had a stereo shop install it. The door, window hatch, and stupid panic button relays are extra. You can get a remote that can operate two vehicles. (lock, unlock, start.....) Kyle is right, you can render your truck useless. I would have someone with experience install it. Good luck.

If you have a decent background in electronics they aren't that hard to install. BUT like stated above it is also pretty easy to mess some stuff up to. Looking online you can find wiring specs. Look on the12volt.com for information.

Save your self the headache and pay the installation fee.
Then you know its done right and theres a warranty, if somethin gets messed up it won't cost you a dime.

It's not that hard at all, BUT one of the biggest mistake you can make on almost any GM is not energize the second ignition line. The truck will start just fine without this wire connected but it will not shift through the gears properly which WILL damage the transmission for sure.
If you do it, go slow and make sure you have something else to drive just in case it will take you longer than expected.
Seems like everyone here is nowhere near me but if you are send me a private message and I could do it for less than retail.

i jus started wrkin @ a stereo shop.. and i wanted a remote start.. on tues i started on my own.. siren, pin switch, tach wire, and taggin all wires under tha dash... it takes a wile.. a couple of hrs.. since u never done it before, n me neither, u have to test each wire to make sure is tha one u need.. rite now my under dash is off, waitin for the experienced installers to give me a hand.. THERFORE, i would recomend u to pay for an install...
